Subsale Stamp Duty 2019

Not to be confused with the recent post titled Stamp Duty 2019, this article is about the stamp duty for Subsale units.

This article highlights the details of purchasing a subsale unit as a First Time Home Buyer in Malaysia and its stamp duty exemption. As part of an effort to reduce the cost of ownership for Malaysian First Time Home Buyers, stamp duties will be exempted for up to RM300,000 on the sale & purchase agreements and loan agreements for a period of 2 years until December 2020.

  1. To qualify for the exemption, the buyer will have to get the Sales & Purchase Agreement stamped between 01 January 2019 to 31 December 2020. However, the exemption is only applicable for the purchase of ONE residential unit per purchaser.
  2. Only Residential Properties (completed and under construction) defined as houses, condominium units, apartments, and flats built as a dwelling qualify.
  3. Small office/Home office (SoHo), Small office/Versatile office (SoVo), Small office/Flexible office and serviced apartments are NOT applicable to the stamp duty exemption.
  4. The exemption also excludes people who have inherited properties from a family member (either individually or joint) but are looking to purchase a property for the first time.
