Dubai, 4 February 2015 – Cityscape, the world’s largest real estate investment and development event, arrives in Malaysia with an inauguration ceremony officiated by the Malaysia Deputy Minister of Works, YB Datuk Rosnah Abdul Rashid Shirlin. A groundbreaking event for the Malaysian real estate industry, Cityscape’s opening ceremony attracted the attendance of global and local movers and shakers, including property developers, architects, real estate consultants, architects, municipal officers, real estate investors and homebuyers.

YB Datuk Rosnah Abdul Rashid Shirlin, extended a warm welcome to the key industry players and mentioned that there is no better time to welcome Cityscape to Malaysia. She poses a few valid challenges to the industry in her speech “As we move towards achieving the vision 2020, we must acknowledge the issue of climate change which is posing a challenge around the world. How can we expand our cities, with minimal negative impact to the environment? Can we create a city which can exist in harmony with the natural environment? It requires a relook on the overall city and infrastructure planning, instead of focusing only on individual building or real estate. I believe that throughout the 3 days of Cityscape Malaysia, all visitors, exhibitors and delegates would be able to get connected and network with experts, authorities and companies who would be able to work together and collaborate towards building a high quality and sustainable city of the future.”

At the event, YB Datuk Rosnah Abdul Rashid Shirlin took a tour of the Cityscape exhibition accompanied by Deep Marwaha, Group Director of Informa Exhibitions and organiser of Cityscape and representatives from the supporting organisations of Cityscape – Ir. Elias Ismail and Sarah Abdul Karib, Senior General Managers of Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB), and Ping Ho, General Manager of Malaysia Convention and Exhibition Bureau (MyCEB).

Zulkefli Haji Sharif, CEO of MyCEB said “We are proud that Malaysia has been selected to host Cityscape, especially because of its prominence for the property industry in the cities around the world where it’s being held. That we have been selected to host such a prestigious event is a testament to our country’s vibrant real estate sector and attractiveness as a business events destination.”

Stephen Oster, Business Development Executive of GRE Assets, an exhibitor at Cityscape said “We are using Cityscape as a platform for our company’s first foray in marketing to the Far East. We are here to prospect and gain long-term clients for our projects. Malaysia investors are very savvy but they often associate London properties with the London city; we are here to showcase the Brighton Marina properties and educate the market about exciting new developments in Brighton area. The response has been very good this morning and we believe in Cityscape as a strong platform for the property market.

David Mizan Hashim, CEO of Veritas Design Group added “I am an avid fan of Cityscape events since its inception in Dubai in 2002. With the addition of the Malaysia edition this year, I am even more confident that Cityscape can only grow bigger and better. We look forward to the next Cityscape in Malaysia, because it attracts the right key players and target market for us.”

Deep Marwaha, Group Director of Informa Exhibitions and organiser of Cityscape said “We are very pleased with the response to Cityscape in Malaysia. There has been a good quality of visitors on its first day and we are expecting more visitors for the next two days. The high level of business activities that were conducted at Cityscape is proof of the significance of Malaysia real estate market on a global stage.”

Maureen Soon, Manager of Benham & Reeves, a trade visitor at Cityscape, commented that the event was a fruitful business trip. She is at the event to evaluate business opportunities and is considering to participate as an exhibitor at Cityscape next year. Mohd Badiuzaman Abdu Talib, Associate brand Marketing of Medini Iskandar said “Our company had participated in Cityscape Dubai back in 2008 and I am excited to be able to visit this event in Malaysia. This is an excellent event to gather market intelligence on the properties which local and oversees companies are marketing. I think this a very unique event because there is a mix of local and overseas exhibitors and the booth set-ups are impressive.”

Among the major real estate participants at Cityscape are Angsana Teluk Bahang, Aseana Properties, BRDB Developments, Eco World Development Group, Emirates Land Real Estate, GRE Assets, Glenmarie Properties, Iskandar Malaysia, Ireka Corporation, Island LandCap Properties Group, Low Yat Group, SP Setia, See Hoy Chan, Tian Hong Holdings, and UEM Sunrise. A number of exhibitors are launching their projects at Cityscape and showcasing their blueprints for the first time.
