Sunway City KL wins MGBC “Top 10 Buildings of the Decade” Award

Continually being recognised for their dedication to sustainability, Sunway City KL was honoured at the Malaysia Green Building Council’s (MGBC) “Top 10 Green Buildings of the Decade Awards”. The ceremony was held on June 22 in conjunction with MGBC’s 10thAnniversary.

The award was presented by Deputy Minister of International Trade and Industry Dr Ong Kian Ming and MGBC organising chairman Michael Ching Chee Hoong, to Sunway Berhad Property Development Division Central Region Senior General Manager Ong Chin Teck on behalf of the company.

“We are humbled by these prestigious awards, and we will continue to intensify our efforts to build our integrated townships, led by Sunway City into “blueprints” for future smart sustainable cities in Malaysia and the ASEAN region, in alignment to the UN 17 Sustainable Development Goals,” said Sunway Berhad’s Property Development Division Managing Director, Sarena Cheah.

The winners were selected by a Master Jury panel comprising of people from associations of buildings professionals, awarding projects deemed to have significantly impacted the build environment in Malaysia over the past decade.

Lauded by former Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew to be a masterpiece that has transformed “wasteland into wonderland,” Sunway City KL incorporates award-winning world-class components and is now habitat to 140 species of flora and fauna and is now an economic driver, welcoming 42 million visitations yearly and is home to 200,000 people.

The township is also Malaysia’s first sustainable township as certified by the Green Building Index.
